MADURAI POLICE CHILDREN\u2019S CLUBS MEASURE<\/em>
MENTAL WELL- BEING OF ELDERS<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Children of the Madurai City Police Children\u2019s Club at
Karimedu presented the results of a survey, recently undertaken
by them on their neighborhood elders. According to them, about
40 % of the elderly are depressed for some reason or the other.
Similar percentage of elders feels a vacuum in their lives and
believes that they cannot be productive or useful anymore. More
than 50% feel that the environment that they live in and their
acquaintances bring hardly any happiness to them. The survey
also recorded physical well being of the elders.
Speaking on the occasion held on Thursday, Mr.Suresh
Kumar, Assistant Commissioner, Focal point of the Madurai City
Children\u2019s Club, highlighted the responsibility of children towards
the elders in their neighbourhood and encouraged the club
members to extend physical and moral support to help the elders
lead a better life.
Indicating the said survey exercise as the first activity of the
Police Children\u2019s Club Project, developed and launched by
Shri.Prem Anand Sinha, Commissioner of Police, Madurai City,
jointly with TVS-Arogya Welfare Trust, he said that the Police
Children\u2019s Clubs in Madurai will also conduct screening camps
for adolescent girls and boys, organize awareness on “preventing
violence against girls\/ boys”, mapping of garbage disposal areas
in their respective localities and also develop a \u201cCareer Dream\u201d
for individual members of the Club.
The 6 Month project shall help the club members develop a
vision for their lives, introspect their talents and skills, develop
personality and gain motivation to be involved in social work.
The project believes that timely and appropriate interventions in
the lives of the children shall help control crimes against and by
the children, which is the primary mission of the Police
Children\u2019s Club.
The corporate collaboration for police Children\u2019s club
initiated by the Commissioner for the first time in Madurai, will
set stage for more Corporate to join the initiative. Earlier in the day, the Karimedu Police Children\u2019s Club had
organized anaemia screening camp and held campaign on
preventive health. Police officials, Officers from TVS-Arogya
Welfare Trust, Parents of the Club children were among those
who participated in the programme. Police Children\u2019s Club
Coordinators Priya and Packiya organised the programme.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
