Police have cracked down on violators of the Thevar Jayanti festival in Madurai

During the celebration of Thevar Jeyanthi on 30.10.2021 at 13.30 hrs, when the government bus bearing plying between Periyar Bus Stand and Natham, was moving near Muthaliyar Idli shop in Goriplayam, around 30 youths, who took part in celebrations, boarded the bus, created ruckus and damaged the front glasses of bus. In this connection, a case in D1 Tallakulam PS was registered against them for unlawful assembly and damaging government property

  1. As a result of sustained investigation by analyzing footages recorded from drone cameras, video clippings and photographs of police photographers and CCTV camera footages available nearby places, 28 accused involved in the incident were identified and they were arrested.
  2. Further, during the Thevar Jeyanthi celebrations, 150 two-wheeler riders, who were found riding their vehicles in a rash and negligent manner in various parts of the city limits, were photographed, cases were registered against through e-challan and fine was imposed.
  3. During the celebration of Thevar Jeyanthi on 30.10.2021, the two-wheeler and four wheeler riders who drove their vehicles in a rash and negligent manner raising inappropriate sound causing disturbance to the general public in Madurai City were booked and necessary legal action were taken against the violators. In this regard, 79 cases were registered against 112 two-wheelers, 3 four wheelers including 13 IPC cases, four 75 MCP Act cases and 62 Motor Vehicles Act cases. Further, a fine to the tune of Rs.1,36,600/- was imposed on the violators.
